ZabKab and ZabKab Driver were developed in 2012 by Flatiron
Apps LLC, a company with bright, hardworking people in the heart of the Flatiron
district of Manhattan. We create elegant solutions to simplify your life, so you
have more time to go out and enjoy it!
We know firsthand the challenges that cab drivers and
passengers face in making fast, easy connections. We built ZabKab and ZabKab Driver
as companion applications for use on a variety of mobile devices. They work together
to help passengers find taxis – and taxi drivers to find passengers – quickly and
Passengers extend their hail electronically with a simple
press of a button. GPS technology identifies their location, and an icon appears
on the map of cab drivers’ mobile devices, letting drivers know right where passengers
need to be picked up.
It’s a win-win for everyone. Hard-working cab drivers
earn more money by spending less idle time looking for passengers. Passengers get
where they need to go more efficiently without any change to their fare. ZabKab
and ZabKab Driver are currently available for iPhone, iPad, and Android.
We beta launched with great success in August 2012. ZabKab
was the first and only Taxi App rolled out in New York City. Thousands of Drivers signed
up in New York and so did tens-of-thousands of consumers (see YouTube for TV coverage of
ZabKab). Unfortunately one month later New York’s Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC)
decided to shut us down, and any other potential providers, when Uber followed our lead
but did not abide by TLC’s regulations. For nine months, until May 2013, there was a
moratorium (and lots of law suits) until TLC allowed App providers back into the market
if they licensed through them. There were two problems for us as a start-up. 1) it was
very expensive and the process tilted only to companies with lots of capital and
personnel 2) we did not like the degree of information we would have to provide the
local government including personal data about each user on a monthly basis. We are
re-grouping and deciding if we can financially start again. If so, our intent is to
resume rolling out across the U.S. and globally. We continue to see downloads in 70+
countries around the world daily as people look to our idea.
